Sunday Oatmeal is the new ‘fun treat’ cereal around here. We call it Sunday Oatmeal because yes, you guessed it, we only eat it on Sundays (and Saturdays).
We’ve completely phased out cold cereal (YAY-have I mentioned that I hate cold cereal). This means more cooking for me, but I keep it simple by cooking oatmeal most mornings with the exception of Vegan Baked Oatmeal Pudding or Vegan Buckwheat Pancakes one or two mornings per week. On the weekends, we pile these goodies on our oatmeal. ( I know, we get really crazy around here. )
It’s sooo yummy and way better than all that flavorless, non-organic cold cereal we used to eat!
How Much It Costs
We were spending 20$-30$ per month on cold cereal from Aldi. Now we spend 6$ per month on organic rolled oats, $3.20 per month for the organic chocolate chips, $3.50 per month for the organic brown sugar, and $.50 per month for the organic cinnnamon, and about 10$ per month for the organic sunbutter. So we spend a total of $23.20 for oatmeal breakfasts now. So it costs about the same as cold cereal, but it’s 100% organic, so much healthier, and so much tastier!
I’m very strict about only allowing this deluxe oatmeal on Saturdays and Sundays. Brown sugar, cinnamon, and sunbutter are OK during the week, but the chocolate chips are reserved for the weekend.
Make your organic oatmeal on the stove (or in the microwave for a single serving).
Pile on organic brown sugar, cinnamon, sunflower seed butter, chocolate chips, and dried cherries to taste.
Top with freshly made almond milk and enjoy the healthy deliciousness!
