The next time you find yourself with organic orange rinds, don’t throw them away! Throw them in a saucepan with some cinnamon, cloves, and water and make a delicious tea out of ’em!
Cooking more seasonal, organic or locally grown foods has given me a new appreciation for these foods. It inspires me to bet creative, since I want to put every last bit of this beautiful food to use! The last place I want to see any of it is in the trash!
These orange rinds were leftover from a Marrs Orange, Apple, and Sunflower Greens Salad I made. Next time, I think I’ll throw the organic apple cores and peels into the saucepan as well for an orange/apple spice tea!
orange rinds from 2 organic oranges
1 organic cinnamon stick
3 organic cloves
2 cups water
fresh lemon wedge
pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
Combine in a saucepan and simmer for 30 minutes.
Pour through a strainer.
Add 1 teaspoon of honey, a squirt of fresh lemon, and enjoy!
Note; if you’re fighting a cold or just want to give your immune system a boost, add a pinch of cayenne powder to the tea. Or if you’re like me, add it just because you love spicy flavors!
