There are lots of recipes out there for fried green tomatoes. This is how my Grandma makes them, and I think they are the yummiest! This also happens to be the EASIEST recipe that I’ve seen! Win-win!! The secrets to great fried green tomatoes are thinly sliced tomatoes, and a very hot pan. If the pan/oil isn’t hot enough, the tomatoes won’t be crispy, so make sure you allow the oil to get hot before putting the tomatoes into the pan! 🙂
1 med.-lg. green tomato
1/2 cup flour
4 T. olive oil
salt and pepper
Slice tomato very thinly (I get 9-10 slices out of 1 large tomato)
Coat each slice with flour.
Heat 2 T. olive oil in skillet.
When very hot (will start smoking slightly), place tomato slices in pan.
Fry for 1-2 minutes on each side.
Sprinkle generously with salt and pepper.
Serve and eat immediately while piping hot and crispy!
After eating the first batch, repeat above process with next batch of tomatoes! 🙂
